Under what guise does antisemitism appear in stadiums, clubs and fan cultures? And why is it gaining ground in precisely these settings?
Tonight’s conversation between Professor Erik Petry (University of Basel) and sports journalist Felix Tamsut will explore how antisemitic images have evolved from their historic roots to the present day, how the sporting world picks up on and develops them, and what part is played by education institutions, sports clubs, the media and social networks. The two guests will talk about key challenges, current dynamics and the possibilities opened up by educational work and mediation in dealing with antisemitism in sport.
This event is part of the project “Images of Israel and antisemitism in German society”, which is funded by the Bavarian State Ministry of Education and Culture. It is intended for schoolchildren, students and anyone who is interested in the topic.
The event will be held in German. Prior registration is required. For more information, please visit the website of the Center for Israel Studies (ZIS).
